A difficult question as
always... I'm a child of the 60's.
I left my alma mater, Stanford,
in 1977 for Texas. I've
been cruising the net since 1980. I'm a father of five: Ellen, Anne,
Sabie, John and David, in love with my wife, Mary, and
a real boy scout (although
I'm a
bit ashamed of the national leadership these days).
As an engineer I've designed chips at TI,
hacked Lisp, C--, and hypertext at MCC,
and I started bootstrapping the World Wide Web at Schlumberger in 1992. My paper: Four
lessons learned from managing World Wide Web digital libraries
describes work I did in those early days. When I left Schlumberger, I was
Principal Engineer for Search Technology in charge of the corporate and public search engines at Schlumberger
and their use in knowledge management.
Schlumberger closed down its Austin Center and sold most of its
software business in January 2004. After consulting and
knowledge management projects. I decided to apply what I'd learned
in a different field - Astrophotography.
